Our mission is to empower underprivileged youth and women in Louisiana, with interest in aviation and aerospace, by facilitating and providing educational opportunities within the industry, inspiring them to follow their dreams of reaching the sky and beyond.

It’s important to understand the “why” of an organization.
Below you’ll find data that we have collected, so that you may better understand the purpose of Scarlett Skies Initiative, and those we strive to support.

While complex socioeconomic issues require a broad range of intricate solutions, our desire is to simply make a difference in a way that is significant enough to impact those who strive for more.
Flight training for example is very expensive. Many student pilots never complete their training due to the financial demands required.
The percentage of women in aviation and aerospace related fields is modest, but slowly increasing, and we wish to contribute to that growth. These fields are not careers that females have commonly seen as a possibility to pursue, especially when coming from backgrounds involving various adversities. Women in these fields often lack support and representation.
Data reports that children who grow up in households with low income, lack of proper healthcare, educational challenges and racial disparities, are most likely to have less access to higher education opportunities. In comparison to the rest of the U.S., Louisiana ranks second highest in poverty, last in overall health, and while improving in some areas due to community efforts, still faces a multitude of educational disparities.
Whether it be through educational outreach, scholarships, or advocacy, we strive to show these woman and children that they too can find their place in these spaces, accomplish extraordinary things, and make a stellar impact.
